Today’s challenge is how do
you define personal growth, And as I was thinking about this and trying to
figure out what I wanted to write and how I wanted to explain this, I thought
of something my grandmother used to tell me she would say” As long as you learn
something new every day the day was a good day, even when you’re an old woman
and can barely get around try to learn something new.” So, as I sat thinking of
this phrase that she actually said to me quite often, I came to a realization
that this was in its simplest form what personal growth means to me. Learning something
new in any area of your life or in several areas of your life if you’re like
me.
I as a kid would challenge myself with my reading skills
(reading was something I loved doing) and I would set what a lot of people
thought were outrageous goals for myself (such as reading 5000 pages in a 1-month
period of time) and I would achieve them. I learned to sew because I needed to
fix some pants and my mom said for me to watch her and learn so the next time I
could do it myself. I taught myself how to do acrylic nails because I liked the
look but really couldn’t afford to get them done at a salon. As a teenager, I
learned to dye my hair because again it was cheaper and I got pretty go at it.
As an adult, I still set goals for myself, but often they
are more family goals, I still have personal goals like I want to be more
organized at work and so I am currently researching ways to be more organized
in a small area (any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!) I am also
wanting to be healthier, but getting to the gym is proving to more difficult
than I thought it would be. I am learning to make soap so I can start a soap
business and someday want to run my own company. These are some huge goals and someday I will
achieve them but it takes hard work. I
started doing meditation when I was young due to having a temper, I have
learned several techniques that have since given me a very long fuse, and
allowed me to gain so much more patience.
SO, I guess to sum up the way I define personal growth is
constant change and evolution, by always challenging yourself whether it be in
your personal life, career, or even financial. I view myself as a lump of clay
and each new goal that I create and accomplish is changing me into the final
work of art that I envision that I will be someday. Thanks for stopping by
today and I hope you will tune in on Monday for Vacation time!?
