Ok todays headline I debated on posting but in the end, I
decided to go with it. I am curious for others comments and feelings toward
this article.
Couple
tried to hide newborn's addiction by giving her drugs, police say
Ok so with that being posted I was kind
of curious how a parent could give a newborn drug at all. So, I began my
research to answer the questions I had in my mind, Which I am sure that this
headline has brought up questions for you.
So, the facts that I learned:
·
The couple was
arrested after a Month-long investigation
·
The police
discovered that the couple were able to give the newborn drugs while in the
hospital
·
3 others of the couple’s
young children also tested positive for drugs
·
The man and his
wife have been arrested twice during the ongoing investigation
·
The investigation
started in June where the man was trying to return stolen items to the customer
service with his 2-month-old baby in the car seat
·
When the man
attempted to leave the store, he was approached by security and began to run
·
The man ran into
the sliding doors and dropped his infant causing her and the car seat to roll.
·
The man
eventually gave his infant to a Stranger and ran to his car to try and escape
police
·
The man was
finally arrested for child endangerment, theft, drug possession
·
2 of the younger
boys and the infant girl all tested positive for methamphetamine and the infant
girl also tested positive for Heroin and morphine.
·
The police
suspect that the infant girl tested positive because the mother did drugs while
pregnant, but are unsure how the 4 and 2-year-old boys tested positive
·
The baby’s mother
had heavily used drugs while pregnant and in an effort to conceal the baby’s
addiction crushed up pain meds and rubbed them on the baby’s gums.
·
The couple is
facing 3rd degree felony charges
·
The oldest boy
has a different father and was contacted by DCFS and in an effort to keep the
siblings together has asked to take all the children
So, there is a lot in this article.
I want to again put forth a disclaimer that the
thoughts in this part of the blog are my personal opinion and are not meant to
offend anyone but merely state my feelings on this article. And what I feel is this couple has some
serious demons. Addiction is nothing to mess with. Addiction makes a person
choose to do bad things, or sometimes make a good person do bad things and not
care who it hurts. I am by no means saying that is an excuse and that this coupIe
should not face their punishments, But I hope as the judge is sentencing them
that one of the requirements for their incarceration is some sort of Rehab, and
possible some therapy, it has been in my experience that when a person is
facing a severe addiction such as this that they are trying to kill the pain of
something from their past. I feel very bad for the children they are the innocent
in all of this and did not ask for any of the mess that they face, what with
dealing with their own addictions because of their parents. I do think it is
amazing that the children are able to stay together and that there may be a
happy ending for them.
I have seen addiction in one form or another
in my life, both my parents were alcoholics at one point. My mom was able to
kick her addiction and has been sober for 29 years, and My dad last, I knew is
still dealing with his demons. (because of his choices it has put a strain on
our relationship so I don’t talk to him much) But both my parents will say that
it is a never-ending battle that you have to consciously make a decision every
day. Even though my mom has been sober, for as long as she has she says the
cravings and urges are still there. I
want any readers who are dealing with an addiction themselves right now to turn
to someone you trust and try to get help. You have to want to and if you have
kids think of them and again try to get help to show them that you are strong
and that their love means something to you. What is your opinion on this article? Have you had any dealings with addictions
yourself of a loved one?
Thanks
again everyone for joining me today and hope to see you tomorrow for the last
